Cargo delivery time on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway should be reduced, says Turkish official

Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Riza Tuna Turagay has said that the delivery of goods from Kars to Baku by rail was taking 70 hours.

He made the statement at a meeting of the Trilateral Committee on Customs between the governments of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia in Baku on August 18, Report informs.

“It is necessary to reduce the time of cargo delivery via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars [BTK railway],” Turagay said.

According to him, the discussions in Baku will contribute to the activation of the use of the BTK railway line.

“Currently, the volume of rail traffic between our countries is low, although it is very important for the growth of trade. We are not using the possibilities of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars enough. World trade is developing at a rapid pace, which requires adapting the development of transit links, infrastructure, etc., to them,” Turagay said.

At today's meeting, the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye signed an agreement on preliminary data exchange to simplify transit customs procedures on the BTK railway project.
