Moscow says Finland's cancellation of visa issuance to Russians to not go unanswered
REGION 18 August 2022 - 17:47
Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Press and Information Department Ivan Nechaev has said that Finland's decision to reduce tourist visas for Russians would not go unanswered by Moscow.
Nechaev made the remarks during the briefing on August 18, Kommersant informs.
“The decision of the Finnish authorities to limit the acceptance of applications for visas to Finland from Russian citizens is entirely in line with another Russophobic campaign in individual EU states initiated by the Baltic countries,” he said.
Ivanov described the decision of the Finnish authorities as "politically motivated discrimination against Russians on the basis of national origin."
"These steps will not go unanswered by the Russian side," he said.
Nechaev did not talk about what measures the Russian side would take but noted that the Russians need to be prepared for the fact that the EU countries will stop issuing visas to Russian citizens.
“We do not rule out that a decision will be made at the EU level to stop issuing Schengen visas to Russians,” Nechaev admitted.
