German minister calls for Russia, Belarus Euro 2024 ban

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser demanded to exclude the national football teams of Russia and Belarus from the qualification of the European Championship 2024.
The politician sent a corresponding letter to the president of the Union of the European Football Associations (UEFA), Alexander Ceferin, Der Spiegel reports.
"Not only Russia but also Belarus, as the main ally of the Russian leadership, should be excluded from participation in all international matches and tournaments.
In addition, Russian and Belarusian functionaries should be stripped of their positions in influential international sports federations. Football should reaffirm its important role in the world of sport, and speak with one voice about what is happening. All those responsible should be deprived of the opportunity to engage in sport and exert influence on the international arena," the German newspaper quotes the text of the letter from Faeser.
