Ex-president: Unresolved problems with Baku, Ankara put Armenia's statehood in jeopardy

"Armenia is facing difficult and painful decisions, it will have to sign agreements with both Azerbaijan and Turkey."

The remarks came from the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan stated in an interview with local Public Television on September 26, Caliber.Az reports.

“This is unpleasant for everyone, but the moment will come when there will be no other choice,” said Ter-Petrosyan.

According to him, if the problems with Baku and Ankara are not resolved, the very existence of Armenian statehood will soon be in jeopardy.

At the same time, Ter-Petrosyan called the possible signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan the capitulation of Armenia.

According to him, there have been many examples in history when states that are much stronger than Armenia capitulated. In this context, he gave the example of Japan.

“There are no neighbouring countries in the world between which peace agreements have not been signed. Yes, this is the capitulation of Armenia,” Ter-Petrosyan said.
