Azerbaijan to demine 227 settlements in three stages

The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has said that it is planned to completely clear 33,795 hectares of residential territory in three stages.

This covers about 227 settlements, ANAMA Deputy Chairman Samir Poladov has told APA.

In an international forum in Aghdam on October 5, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that about 250 Azerbaijanis have been killed and injured in explosions of land mines planted by Armenians in liberated territories since November 2020.

Meanwhile, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva voiced support for demining Azerbaijani territories, Report informs.

Speaking at the first Azerbaijani National Urban Planning Forum in Aghdam, she said that the UN in Azerbaijan is also ready to support the economy, the environment and the Great Return program. In general, the priorities of the UN correspond to the country's priorities, Andreeva added.

The UN resident coordinator also noted that Azerbaijan has adopted a good strategy in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the UN supported it.

Andreeva recalled that in March, a mission consisting of experts from the UN, the European Union (EU) and the World Bank arrived in Azerbaijan to assess the needs for rehabilitation and reconstruction in the liberated territories based on the methodology of Assessing Ways of Restoring and Developing Peace (RPBA), which carried out work, including in the Aghdam district.
