Azerbaijan sparing no effort to build Zangazur corridor
ECONOMICS 27 October 2022 - 15:19
Azerbaijan is actively promoting the creation of the Zangazur corridor, which will become an important part of the East-West transport axis, said the country’s deputy prime minister.
Shahin Mustafayev said that Azerbaijan has been doing a lot of work on its territory along this transport corridor, including the construction and restoration of the road and railway infrastructure.
“Around 66 per cent or 123.9 km of the route has been completed on the Horadiz-Aghband highway and 38 per cent of the work - on the Horadiz-Aghband railway [110.4 km]. They are an integral part of this corridor. Unfortunately, the same is not happening on the territory of Armenia, no practical actions are being taken, even a feasibility study and projects are not being prepared,” Report quotes Mustafayev as saying.
He added that there have long been speculations regarding the terms "transport corridor", and "extraterritoriality", although they are not related to each other and are not even synonymous.
He recalled that a transport corridor is a transport route passing through the territories of several countries that are coordinating transport, customs and other policies with an aim of reducing costs and transit time to encourage transportation.
“Being a party to the Agreement on the coordinated development of international transport corridors, passing through the territory of the CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States] member states and other similar multilateral and bilateral documents, such a concept of a transport corridor is also well known in Armenia,” Mustafayev said.
