"Historical practice shows that conflicts cannot last forever"
President Ilham Aliyev addresses participants of ICAPP special conference held in Baku
CHRONICLE 22 November 2022 - 11:10
11:10
President Ilham Aliyev addressed the participants of the Special International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) on "Security and cooperation: the role of political parties", held in Baku.
The address reads:
"Dear participants of the conference!
I cordially greet you, the participants of the special conference of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) on "Security and cooperation: the role of political parties," and wish success in the work of the conference.
As a reputable international organisation uniting more than 370 political parties in the Asian region, ICAPP is an important platform for discussion of current regional and global issues, the exchange of views, and experience at the level of leading political parties of the states. The scope of the extensive discussion environment created by ICAPP is not limited to Asia; representatives of political parties from Africa, Europe, and Latin America regularly participate in its events.
In the current period of formation of the new world order, accompanied by serious upheavals in the system of international relations, there is a need for political parties and international organisations to reassess their positions and capacities to influence events at various levels.
Among the contemporary global challenges faced by states, peace and security issues are among the most urgent, affecting all spheres and actors in international relations. It is also a sensitive and high-priority issue for the entire South Caucasus region and for Azerbaijan, which in 2020 fulfilled the demands of four resolutions of the UN Security Council that had not been implemented in almost 30 years, ending years of military aggression and liberating its territories from the occupation in the Second Karabakh War.
Historical practice shows that conflicts cannot last forever. Establishing peace and security between Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on the principles of international law and justice, is the need of the hour. In this context, it is commendable that political parties share knowledge and experience, and expand opportunities for cooperation to promote international peace and security.
Holding today's event simultaneously with the 30th anniversary of Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP) is a significant event and an indicator of the importance given by YAP to international cooperation and foreign partners, celebrating its jubilee together with the friendly political parties.
I hope that within the framework of this conference organised by Yeni Azerbaijan Party useful and productive discussions will be held, and effective directions for increasing the activity of political parties in promoting peace and security in the region as well as in the world will be determined.
I wish each of you success in activities that serve a purpose.
