Azerbaijan marks second anniversary of Kalbajar's liberation

Today, November 25, marks the second anniversary of the liberation from the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijan's Kalbajar district. To recap, the Armenian Armed Forces occupied Kalbajar on April 2, 1993. As a result of the occupation, over 70,000 people were forced to leave their homes, 55 servicemen and 511 civilians were killed, 321 people were missing or captured, and thousands of people were injured. Three residents of the district became national heroes.

As a result of Azerbaijan's victory during the Patriotic War of 2020, the Kalbajar district, according to the trilateral statement of the Azerbaijani, Russian and Armenian leaders, was liberated without a fight.

On November 25, 2020, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed the Azerbaijani people.

"Dear compatriots. Today, the Kalbajar district has been liberated from occupation. I cordially congratulate the entire Azerbaijani people on this occasion.

Dear Kalbajar residents, congratulations! Your home district has been liberated from occupation. The Azerbaijani people have been looking forward to this day for many years. Kalbajar District was occupied on April 2, 1993. Innocent people were barbarously expelled from their ancestral land. Significant damage has been done to historical monuments and the nature of Kalbajar.

We will restore Kalbajar, let no one doubt, and life will return here. Agriculture, especially animal husbandry, will develop in Kalbajar," President Aliyev said, in particular.
