ICRC: Servicemen make up over 80% of those missing during Karabakh conflict

Ilaha Huseynova, Head of the PR department of the International Committee of the Red Cross's Baku office (ICRC) has said that 80 per cent of the individuals went missing during the Karabakh conflict are servicemen.

“A total of 4,500 people are considered missing since the beginning of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, that is, since the 1990s of the last century, Huseynova noted, Report informs.

"Some 3,800 of these people were registered in Baku’s and Barda’s offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Around 80 per cent of them are servicemen," she said.

Huseynova stressed that mass graves discovered in the liberated Azerbaijani territories should be exhumated by specialists.

“Information about the missing people has been collected, biological samples have been taken. All this plays an important role in the search for the missing. Mass graves should be exhumated by specialists,” she added.
