Azerbaijan lowers gas exports to Türkiye

Türkiye imported 710.48 million cubic metres of natural gas from Azerbaijan this September, which is 3.73 per cent less than last September.

The data finds itself in a report of the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority, Report informs.

From January to September this year, Türkiye imported over 6.4 billion million cubic metres of natural gas from Azerbaijan, which is 4.4 per cent less than last year.

In September this year, Türkiye imported more than 3.4 billion cubic metres of gas, which is 20.56 per cent less than in the same month of 2021. Russia is the leading exporter, exporting almost 1.54 billion cubic metres to Türkiye (a 23.09 per cent decrease). Iran is in second place with nearly 855 million cubic metres delivered to Türkiye (a 3.8 per cent decrease year on year). Azerbaijan is the third on the list, with 20.89 per cent of Türkiye's total gas imports.

Natural gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is supplied to Türkiye through the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP). The first gas through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline reached the Turkish market in 2007. Commercial gas deliveries to Türkiye via TANAP started on June 30, 2018.
