President Erdogan: Türkiye to complete "security zone" creation at its borders
REGION 03 December 2022 - 16:47
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye must be strong in a region full of instability, contradictions and conflicts.
President Erdogan made the remarks during the opening ceremony of a number of facilities in southeastern Sanliurfa province, Anadolu Agency reports.
The Turkish leader added that any weak country dooms itself to outside interference.
“Each of you today sees the actions of countries that, thousands of kilometres from their borders, are waging proxy wars in our region, justifying their actions with the requirements of security and welfare. At the same time, these powers oppose Ankara's steps to ensure the security of its own, that is, Turkish borders,” President Erdogan said, addressing those gathered in the city square.
President Erdogan stressed that the goals of the above-mentioned countries are not to protect the interests of ethnic Kurds, Arabs, Turks or other peoples.
"The only reason for their actions is political and economic dividends," the Turkish president added.
The Turkish leader drew attention to the threat of terrorist organisations, which are the "product" of certain foreign circles.
“Our country has been fighting against terrorism for about 40 years, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people: women, children and the elderly. However, Ankara's opponents forget that Türkiye is not the same as before. Today Ankara itself determines its political, economic and military course, prepares plans in the field of democracy and development. Modern Türkiye enjoys a growing prestige in the region and in the international arena,” the president noted.
The Turkish president called the last years "the most problematic period in modern history after two world wars".
At the same time, he assured that Türkiye would definitely complete the creation of a "security zone" 30 kilometres (deep into Syria) from its borders.
“Attacks and pressure will not make us turn off the intended path. Our determination is unchanged,” he stressed.
