Azerbaijan detains ten Sri Lankan citizens for attempted border violations
SOCIETY 06 December 2022 - 13:15
Azerbaijan’s State Border Service has detained ten Sri Lankan citizens upon trying to violate the country’s state border.
At 03:30 local time on December 4, ten Sri Lankan citizens were detained at the outpost of the Khudat border guard unit near Gusar District’s Khazri village when they attempted to violate the state border and then cross into Russia, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Service.
The investigation revealed that the detainees had entered the country officially and then, after violating the state border, intended to migrate from Azerbaijan to Russia and from there to a European country.
Thanks to measures taken by the State Border Service in September, October and November this year, 100 people were detained while attempting to cross the state border with fake passports, visas and date stamps and 160 people were arrested for state border violation.
Operational and investigative activities are underway to identify and neutralise the illegal migration channel, the report said.
The State Border Service spares no effort to reliably protect the state border, tackle illegal migration and carry out operational and search measures.
