Expert condemns UNESCO for inaction on Armenian atrocities in Karabakh

UNESCO has turned a blind eye to Armenian atrocities in Karabakh for 30 years.

The remarks came from President of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship, Cooperation and Solidarity Foundation Aygun Attar at a Baku-hosted international scientific conference on "The role of UNESCO conventions in protecting cultural values and aspects of improvement of their application", according to Report.

"What action has UNESCO taken against Armenia, which for 30 years has committed crimes on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan? We should ask ourselves that question," she said, adding that Armenia had destroyed the cultural heritage in Karabakh and about a million people had been forced to flee, losing their homes.

Attar also noted that Armenia's atrocities had turned the once commercial centre of the region, Aghdam, into ruins: "These lands are now like Hiroshima. How long will UNESCO remain silent about this?"

"The war is over, Azerbaijan has won a victory. Now Azerbaijan, thanks to the confident policy of President Ilham Aliyev, is restoring its territories itself, while opening up new economic opportunities for many countries," she said.
