Azerbaijan dismisses Armenia's claims on int'l mechanisms for protection of Karabakh Armenians
Hajiyev responds Grigoryan
POLITICS 08 December 2022 - 21:12
Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev has dismissed Armenia's claim on creation of international mechanisms for the protection of Armenians' right living in Karabakh.
"The statements regarding the agreement on creating international mechanisms for the protection of the rights and security of Armenians living in Karabakh are lies," he said, Report informs.
Hajiyev made the remarks in reponse to Armenia's Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan's statement about the alleged agreement in Washington on the creation of international mechanisms for the protection of the rights and security of Armenians living in Karabakh.
He said that unfortunately, the essence of the discussions held by the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council is distorted unilaterally.
"In my interview with Azerbaijani media on October 13, detailed information was given about the content and nature of the discussions held in Washington. I would like to note once again that the statements about the alleged agreement in Washington on establishing international mechanisms regarding the rights and security of the Armenian population living in Karabagh region of Azerbaijan are false. Discussing an issue during the negotiations does not mean that there has been an agreement on this issue. On September 27, during a meeting at the White House in Washington hosted by US President's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, we stated once again that Azerbaijan will not discuss the rights and security of the Armenian population living in Karabakh with any international partners; this is an internal matter of our country regulated upon the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it is a matter of national sovereignty, and creation of an international mechanism is out of the question. Azerbaijan does not intend to discuss this issue with either Armenia or other states and organizations. At the meeting, the U.S. representative once again expressed his respect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty," Hajiyev stressed.
According to him, Armenian officials making such statements about the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, contrary to the statements made in Prague and Sochi, is regarded as an encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
"These and other contradictory statements and unnecessary new elements recently put forward by Armenian officials indicate the intention of the Armenian side to deliberately derail the negotiations on the peace agreement and create only an imitation of negotiations. We recommend the Armenian side to abandon such destructive policy, demonstrate political will to ensure lasting peace and security in the region and seriously participate in the peace treaty negotiations," Hajiyev added.
