Azerbaijani MP: France definitely misses chance to contribute to Caucasus peace

    POLITICS  09 December 2022 - 11:15

Azerbaijani MP Nigar Arpadarai has said that France has definitely missed the chance to contribute to the South Caucasus peace.

"France does not help either itself or Armenia by antagonising the whole of Azerbaijan in the name of a certain conjuncture. Rather, it indicates that the country does not want peace in the region. One thing is absolutely obvious: France has definitely missed the chance to become a mediator and contribute to peace in the South Caucasus," Caliber.Az reports, citing Arpadarai.

"Before turning to the absurd anti-Azerbaijani resolution adopted by the French National Assembly, it is necessary to note some historical facts. In particular, one can recall how one of the German generals, signing a document on the surrender of Germany in World War II, seeing representatives of the French government at the ceremony, asked with surprise: 'Did we lose to the French too?!'. Yes, France, which had no statehood by the end of 1945, joined the UN as one of the members of the Security Council. This also happened because Stalin and Roosevelt wanted to keep Germany from its future ambitions. France was supposed to be an instrument for maintaining the political balance in Europe on this issue. It is for this reason that they artificially 'revived' France. Although this country was a member of the UN Security Council, its economic, political and military authority did not correspond to the rank," she said.

"Currently, we are faced with a situation where France is pursuing a foreign policy that does not correspond to its real capabilities. The ambitions of this country do not coincide with its real weight, it is for this reason that it makes serious mistakes in its foreign policy. Thus, in order to create certain conditions, France has turned the whole of Azerbaijan against itself.

The second question is whether the National Assembly of France almost unanimously voted for the well-known resolution. This suggests that there is an agreement between the political elite of France and Armenia on the issue of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Supporting Armenia with an anti-Azerbaijani position, France also opposes Turkey," the MP said.

Arpadarai stressed that Azerbaijan needs to reconsider relations with the political elite of France: "In relations with economic, political and think tanks, as well as in partnership with countries that take the same position, it is necessary to act systematically."

The MP said that these absurd and biased resolutions are a serious disrespect for international law.
