Iranian president makes phone call to Azerbaijani counterpart

Iran’s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi initiated a phone call to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on January 28.

As Caliber.Az reports with reference to the website of the head of the Azerbaijani state, Raisi, in connection with the death of the head of the security service of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, Orkhan Asgarov, expressed condolences to President Aliyev, the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the victims.

President Aliyev said he strongly condemns the terrorist act committed against the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, expressed hope that this bloody act will be thoroughly investigated and that the criminals will be punished.

The head of state noted that another employee of the embassy’s security service, being unarmed, rushed to the terrorist, fearlessly and deftly disarming him.

The Azerbaijani president said that if the terrorist had not been disarmed, other embassy employees and their family members living in the embassy’s residential section would have been targeted.

The Azerbaijani head of state stressed the importance of ensuring the security of diplomatic missions.
