Ukrainian defence minister unveils expectations from EU to win war

Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov has said that Ukraine needs long-range weapons and heavy equipment to seize the strategic initiative in the war with Russia.

Reznikov made the remarks during a joint meeting of the European Commission and the Ukrainian government in Kyiv, Evropeyskaya Pravda reports.

“To win, we need to seize the strategic initiative. The tragedy in the Dnipro, where a Russian missile killed 46 people, including six children, must not reoccur. We need Patriot missiles,” he said, addressing the EU representatives.

“We should get long-range weapons. Ukraine is ready to provide any guarantees that these weapons will not be used for strikes on Russian territory. Tanks are especially important for the counteroffensive. Artillery is also very important for both defence and offensive,” the minister added.

Reznikov has been on a visit to France this week and said that Ukraine would be able to receive two GM-200 radars, a corresponding memorandum has already been signed with Thales company.

France will also train more than 6,500 Ukrainian military, 2,000 of them will be professionally trained in France and Poland.
