Iran seeks boosting economic cooperation with Armenia

Iranian Cooperation, Labour and Social Security Minister Seyyed Sowlat Mortazavi has urged boosting the level of cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Armenian Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Gnel Sanosyan, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

"We need to work on improving the level of trade and economic relations between our countries," he said.

During the meeting, Sanosyan welcomed the guests and appreciated the "multidisciplinary cooperation of Armenia with friendly Iran".

In turn, Mortazavi stressed the high level of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia.

"But we should not be content with what we have. We must work to raise the level of trade and economic relations between our countries," he said, stressing that Armenia is an important player for Iran in terms of entering the EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union] market.

A number of issues of bilateral interest were discussed during the meeting.

Special attention was paid to the use of the potential of Iranian companies in the development of infrastructure in Armenia.

"We have increased the scale of construction of roads and other infrastructures several times, which means that we need additional construction companies and labour. And we will be glad to see Iranian companies in this area," Sanosyan said.

Mortazavi noted that the companies of the private sector of Iran have great potential and are ready to contribute to the construction of infrastructure facilities in Armenia – roads, railways, and tunnels. Sanosyan welcomed this readiness.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to conduct an inventory of Armenia's needs in the near future and transfer them to Iran through the embassy.
