Official: Kremlin reacts calmly to ICC decision on Putin
REGION 20 March 2023 - 16:42
Press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has said that the Kremlin reacts calmly to such hostile actions against the Russian president as the issuance of a warrant for his arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“We take it easy. We take everything into account and continue working. The president also continues working,” Peskov told reporters, while answering a question about the president’s reaction to the ICC’s decision, Caliber.Az reports citing Interfax.
“We see so many hostile actions against our country and our president in the world. We take this into account, but if each of these hostile actions is taken to heart, nothing good will come of it,” he added.
The ICC’s pre-trial chamber issued warrants on March 17 for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and children's commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.
The ICC explained that such a decision was made as part of the consideration of the case of "illegal deportation of people from territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia - this harmed Ukrainian children".
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the decisions of the Hague International Court have no legal force for Russia.
