UK trade envoy: Azerbaijan has great wind energy potential offshore
ECONOMICS 01 June 2023 - 11:57
British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson has said that the country has great potential for offshore wind energy.
"For 30 years, there has been a very strong partnership between Britain and Azerbaijan. This partnership covers all areas of the economy, with the oil and gas sector at the forefront. Great Britain, as always, has been at the forefront of green energy in Azerbaijan during these years,” APA quotes Nicholson as saying at the 28th Baku Energy Forum on June 1.
According to her, wind energy projects are implemented in partnership with BP and other companies, and they are of vital importance.
In general, the volume of on-land wind and solar energy resources in Azerbaijan totals more than 27 gigawatts (GW). In the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea, the potential for wind energy reaches 157 GW. Baku plans to produce 3 GW of wind and 1 GW of solar energy by 2027, 80 per cent of which will be exported to neighbouring countries, such as Georgia and Iran, and onward to Europe.
