MP: Armenia's plant may lead to ecological, military threat

MP Elshad Mirbashir has said that the plant Armenia is planning to build on the border with Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan could pose not only an environmental but also a military threat in the future.

He made the remarks during his speech at an extraordinary session of Parliament on June 9, Report informs.

"Therefore, we must take serious steps to prevent a future military-political threat and discuss the issue,” he said.

According to the MP, Armenia is building a large-scale steel plant on the territory of 16,500 square metres with a production capacity of 180 thousand tons per year in the Arazadeyen village on the border with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with the financial assistance of the United States.

Since 2022, a large Armenian-American metallurgical plant with an investment of $70 million is being built in the village of Yeraskh (Arazdoyan).

The construction is carried out very close to the borders of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (the distance is about 700-800 metres).
