Newspaper: Pashinyan to start army purges on Western demand

According to recent reports, Nikol Pashinyan's visit to Brussels has resulted in some major developments.

According to Caliber.Az, the Armenian publication Hraparak has suggested that after the visit, the ruling party MPs were not informed of the private agreements and impressions shared during the trip. However, it is believed that the team was conveyed the news that the support of around 330 million euros given to Armenia over four years is merely the tip of the iceberg.

The report further suggests that deep processes have been initiated, with agreements being reached on investments and support for the defence sector.

However, this support comes with preconditions, and the ruling party is reportedly not entirely happy with the developments.

It is said that there is a condition from the West to "purge" the government and especially the army of pro-Russian influential military officers, which Pashinyan can start fulfilling in the coming weeks. In particular, the General Staff of the All-Armenian Army, General Edward Asryan, is at the centre of these discussions.

Despite the potential discontent, it seems that the developments could bring about significant changes in Armenia's political and economic landscape.
