Azerbaijani rep to UN: Armenia refuses to share accurate information about mines

    POLITICS  23 May 2024 - 09:27

Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Yashar Aliyev has said that Armenia refuses to share complete and accurate information about the mines planted on the Azerbaijani territory, despite the conflict is over.

Aliyev made these remarks at an open meeting of the UN Security Council, Report informs.

The ambassador noted that Armenia is deliberately delaying the restoration of the liberated Azerbaijani territories and the return of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people to their houses.

“As a result of the conflict, Azerbaijan has become one of the countries with numerous mines. There are approximately 1.5 million mines and an unspecified volume of unexploded ordnance posing a big risk to civilians in the region,” he noted.

The diplomat noted that in the post-conflict period the number of mine victims reached 360. Some 68 of them died and 292 were severely wounded.
