Macron says Europe surrounded by enemies and "could die"

French President Emmanuel Macron is convinced that Europe has a large number of external and internal enemies and "may die".

We have never had so many external and internal enemies," Macron said, speaking at an event in Berlin marking the 75th anniversary of the German constitution, TASS reports.

"Europe is experiencing, as I said a few weeks ago, a moment [on which its existence depends]. I do believe that our Europe could die," the French leader emphasized.

According to him, this "difficult moment for Europe" is related to the Ukrainian conflict. In addition, it faces "the challenge of decarbonizing the economy, where the solution to climate problems must not be at the expense of economic growth and industrialization." "I also think that <...> our democracy is in a kind of crisis, and we see it ourselves," the French leader said. 

He believes this crisis is caused by the rise of nationalism.
