Azerbaijan develops regional strategy for modern waste management in Karabakh

During the international forum "Solidarity for a Green World: From Waste to Value for a Sustainable Future," Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, unveiled a comprehensive regional strategy aimed at transforming waste management infrastructure in Karabakh.

Highlighting the urgent need following the destruction caused by the recent conflict, Minister, COP 29 President Babayev emphasized the importance of modernizing waste collection, sorting, and recycling systems, Caliber.Az repoirts citing local media.

He underscored that significant amounts of construction waste have been generated during the rehabilitation efforts in areas like the Aghdam district, necessitating efficient management and recycling practices.

"Pilot projects are already underway in Aghdam's villages, where rehabilitation is in progress. It's crucial to engage the private sector more actively in these efforts," stated Babayev, noting the ongoing collaboration between government initiatives and private enterprises.

The Minister also outlined plans to enhance the legislative framework, particularly through the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility institution. This initiative aims to hold manufacturing companies accountable for managing their products' life cycle waste, thereby promoting sustainable practices across industries.
