Armenia says ready to agree on peace deal with Azerbaijan within month

    REGION  27 June 2024 - 14:07

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said that Armenia will count on the support of partners interested in establishing peace in the South Caucasus.

He made the remarks at a joint briefing in Tallinn with his Estonian counterpart Margus Tsakhkna, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

Mirzoyan noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan are almost in consensus on the draft peace agreement and Yerevan is ready to fully complete this work within a month.

According to him, Yerevan remains committed to the peace agenda and is ready to normalise relations with Azerbaijan based on recognition of each other's territorial integrity and continue the process of establishing the state border within the framework of the 1991 Almaty Declaration.

Armenia is also ready to fully normalise relations with Türkiye and open the border with it. As a result of the dialogue with Turkish partners, Mirzoyan added, it was possible to reach agreements on opening the border for third-country nationals and holders of diplomatic passports.

"We have constantly reaffirmed our willingness to do so, and I believe it is time to put these agreements into practice," Mirzoyan said.

When asked by a correspondent of an Estonian media outlet about the attitude towards military actions in Ukraine, Mirzoyan said that Armenia is unequivocally against the war.

"It is intolerable for us, not only based on humanitarianism but also because we have witnessed similar destruction in our region. We have seen civilians forcibly displaced, civilian infrastructure targeted. War is always terrible, and we support not only peace and stability, but also the territorial integrity of countries, and we can only call on the parties to stop fighting," he said.

To recall, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan is on a working visit to Estonia on June 26-27.
