US considering military contractors in Ukraine
    Risking further escalation

    WORLD  29 June 2024 - 04:35

The Biden administration is contemplating allowing US military contractors to operate in Ukraine to support the maintenance and repair of weapons systems provided by the US.

This move raises concerns about escalating US involvement in the conflict, despite President Biden's stance against deploying US troops, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.

The Kremlin is likely to perceive any Western military presence in Ukraine as a provocation, risking a significant escalation of the conflict. Russia has previously used similar strategies to impede NATO expansion in Georgia and Ukraine.

The Biden administration has been cautiously increasing military aid to Ukraine, testing Russia's responses to each new development. However, with Russia gaining ground and the stakes high, the only viable option appears to be increased Western involvement, which may not remain politically acceptable for long.

The article suggests that genuine diplomacy, including open communication and resolving Ukraine's security status, is essential.

The upcoming NATO summit is expected to reaffirm that Ukraine's NATO membership is not feasible, and continued conflict is unlikely to benefit Ukraine. A new pan-European security order should be pursued through discreet dialogue amidst ongoing fighting.
