Syria, Türkiye to hold talks in Baghdad

Baghdad will be the venue for talks between Syria and Türkiye to normalise bilateral relations.

The upcoming Syrian-Turkish meeting "will be the beginning of a long negotiation process that is expected to lead to political understanding and agreements on the situation in the border areas," Caliber.Az reports, citing an Iraqi newspaper.

As the publication points out, the Turkish side asked Moscow and Baghdad to "attend the table where a bilateral dialogue will be held away from the media". The parties are to "discuss all the details in order to return relations between the two neighbours to normal, to the previous level".

The publication notes that the emerging rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus has received Arab support, especially from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Russia, China and Iran have also encouraged the sides to dialog on building bilateral ties, Al Watan wrote.
