President Tokayev: Kazakhstan enhances framework to strengthen ties with China

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stated that Kazakhstan aims to actively foster relations with China, with one of the key objectives being to boost mutual trade turnover to $100 billion.

“We are setting ambitious plans to further intensify our multifaceted relations with China. All necessary prerequisites and conditions are being created to achieve this,” Caliber.Az reports citing President Tokayev's interview with the foreign media.

The president noted that increasing trade turnover is an achievable goal, given the strong growth dynamics in the interaction between China and Kazakhstan.

President Tokayev stated that relations between the countries have reached a higher level after the COVID-19 pandemic, and both nations intend to continue developing these relations.

President Tokayev and Chinese Vice Premier of the State Council Liu Guozhong have recently affirmed their commitment to enhancing ties across all areas of strategic partnership. During their meeting, they discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, transport and logistics, energy, tourism, culture, and humanitarian areas. President Tokayev emphasised that Kazakhstan prioritizes elevating bilateral relations with China to a new level.

"The long-lasting friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and China are steadily growing with great satisfaction," said President Tokayev. "China is Kazakhstan’s leading trade and economic partner, ranking first in terms of bilateral trade volume. In 2023, this figure reached a record $40 billion. We have set the goal of increasing trade turnover to $100 billion, and we believe this goal is achievable."

Liu also highlighted the positive momentum in developing cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.
