Azerbaijan, Ukraine focus on potential cooperation in combating mine threat

Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov has held a meeting with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev.

The meeting focused on exploring potential bilateral cooperation in combating the mine threat, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.

The ambassador expressed gratitude for the Revival P demining vehicle donated by Azerbaijan to aid Ukraine in humanitarian demining efforts, noting its effectiveness in clearing anti-personnel mines. Additionally, the discussion included exchanging views on ANAMA’s training of Ukrainian specialists.

Azerbaijan and Ukraine have a history of cooperation in various sectors, including security and defense. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has intensified the need for effective mine clearance and demining operations, making international cooperation crucial. Azerbaijan, through ANAMA, has been actively involved in demining efforts both domestically and internationally.

ANAMA, established in 1999, is responsible for mine action activities in Azerbaijan, including mine clearance, risk education, and victim assistance. The agency has garnered significant expertise and experience in dealing with landmines and unexploded ordnance, particularly in the aftermath of the Karabakh conflict. This expertise has positioned ANAMA as a valuable partner in international demining efforts.
