Türkiye set to launch Akkuyu NPP this year

Türkiye is making preparations to initiate electricity generation at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant within the year.

Yusuf Ceylan, who oversees the Department of Nuclear Energy and International Projects at Türkiye's Energy Ministry, announced the significant development, Caliber.Az reports echoing Russian media.

Ceylan highlighted the ambitious timeline, stating, "We are planning to begin producing electricity at the Akkuyu NPP within the next year. Our objective is to have all four reactors of the plant operational by 2028."

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant, located in southern Türkiye, is a significant project aimed at diversifying the country's energy sources and enhancing its energy security. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to contribute substantially to Türkiye's electricity grid, providing a stable and sustainable source of power. The construction and commissioning of the Akkuyu NPP involve extensive international collaboration and adherence to stringent safety and regulatory standards.
