Azerbaijan's victory erases stain of Boraltan tragedy from Türkiye's conscience

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Azerbaijan's recent victory has alleviated the long-standing burden of the Boraltan tragedy from Türkiye's conscience.

Speaking at a briefing in Ankara following a government meeting, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye's strong support for Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War was instrumental not only in liberating Azerbaijan's historical lands from Armenian occupation but also in addressing a painful chapter in Turkish history, Caliber.Az reports per AZERTAC.

The Boraltan tragedy of 1944, where Ankara handed over a group of Azerbaijani brothers to Soviet authorities, who subsequently executed them, has been a source of deep regret for Türkiye.

Erdogan pointed out that the shooting of 176 Azerbaijanis was a tragedy blamed on the Republican People's Party of Türkiye, which was in power at the time.

"Our nation has carried the bitterness of the Boraltan tragedy in its heart for 76 years," Erdogan said. "Thanks to Azerbaijan's support, the 30-year Armenian occupation of Karabakh ended, and the Turkish people were freed from the stain of the Boraltan tragedy. We cannot afford a repetition of such events," he emphasized.
