Putin confident in strengthening Moscow-Tehran relations despite Iran's elections

    REGION  04 July 2024 - 19:11

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that relations between Moscow and Tehran will strengthen regardless of Iran's election outcomes.

Mohammad Mokhber, Iran's interim president, met with Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

Mokhber emphasized that the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia is guided by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and is closely monitored.

Russia and Iran are negotiating a comprehensive cooperation agreement, reflecting their deepening bilateral ties. Founded in 2001, the SCO has gained prominence, with its current members including China, India, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

The SCO serves as a platform for cooperation, focusing on security and economics, in contrast to Western alliances. Belarus became the 10th full member of the SCO a year after Iran joined.
