Campaigning concludes for Iran's 2024 presidential runoff
REGION 04 July 2024 - 19:44
Campaigning has officially concluded for Iran’s 2024 presidential runoff, with voting set to begin on July 5.
None of the four candidates secured an absolute majority in the June 28 vote, leading to a runoff between former health minister Massoud Pezeshkian and former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Pezeshkian, a reformist, received 10.4 million votes, while Jalili, a principalist, garnered 9.4 million votes. The two candidates have engaged in intense campaigning and televised debates.
The election is taking place a year ahead of schedule due to the death of President Ebrahim Raeisi in a helicopter crash in May. Preliminary results are expected to be announced on July 6.
