Road bridges uniting Iran, Azerbaijan to come online within one year

The construction and commissioning of road bridges that will pass through the territory of Iran between Azerbaijan’s East Zangazur economic region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will be completed within a year.

According to Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister, Shahin Mustafayev, who is on a visit to Tehran, the construction of the facilities will be completed within a year, according to APA.

He recalled that a corresponding memorandum of understanding was recently signed between the two countries in this matter.

“Today we discussed with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development [Rostam Ghasemi] the issue of construction and financing of road bridges, as well as the completion of the design of the technical details of the projects. We think that we will be able to build and put into operation road bridges within a year,” Mustafayev said.

The deputy prime minister noted that a working group has been created in the railway sector, and discussions of technical details have begun.

“Discussions are also underway on the construction of power transmission lines. These projects will be of great benefit to Iran and Azerbaijan, they will become beneficial transit links, and our peoples will benefit from this.”

Mustafayev also said that there was extensive cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan:

“Cooperation covers the areas of transport, transit, energy, oil, gas, and investment. The transport and transit spheres are among the highest priorities. We have very successful cooperation in this area. In the first 3 months of 2021, the volume of cargo trucking increased by 70 per cent compared to the same period of 2020. We see huge potential in this area and have discussed many projects,” Mustafayev added.
