EU approves military aid package to Ukraine

The EU Council has approved the allocation of the fourth tranche of assistance worth 500 million euros to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund (EPF), which will help the EU support the Ukrainian army with weapons.

The press service of the EU Council said Tuesday in a statement that after accepting three tranches of military support totaling 1.5 billion this year, the fourth tranche will add 500 million euros to them, bringing the total to 2 billion euros, according to "European Pravda". 

The amount of military equipment that will be provided under the new support package is in line with the current priorities declared by the Ukrainian government, the statement reads.

Of the new tranche, 490 million euros are reportedly earmarked for lethal military equipment for defence purposes, as well as 10 million euros to cover the costs of providing equipment and supplies such as personal protective equipment, first aid kits and fuel.

The previous tranches of the EU aid were agreed on February 28, March 23 and April 13, 2022.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, previously reported that the fourth tranche of military aid would be spent on heavy weapons.
