Gazakh: operational situation in 7 occupied exclave villages

REPORTS 18 June 2022 - 14:22
The issue of demarcation and delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border is very important. A working commission has already been set up, which has begun meetings on this issue. The commission is also discussing the issue of 7 occupied villages in the frontier Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. A video report on this issue by military correspondent Hans Kloss is in the new issue of the YouTube channel Caliber.Az.
How can this process go from the point of view of international law?
The northern section was transferred under the control of the State Border Service. In a short time, under constant shelling and sabotage attempts, combat posts were equipped and fortified, and their supply was established. As a result, large border areas were taken under visual control.
The exclaves and border villages of Azerbaijan are still under the control of Armenia, in particular, Safulu and Barkhudarlı. They were occupied by Armenians in 1992. After that, a section of the railway was destroyed so that the villages would not receive reinforcements. Part of the population was killed, and the other part left the villages. Now, these villages are practically wiped off the face of the earth, only parts of the foundations of buildings remain there.
During the summer, Armenians set fire to grass hundreds of times so that the fire spreads to Azerbaijani settlements.
Since September 2018, these positions, where I am now, have come under the control of Azerbaijani border guards from the Defence Ministry. The border guards carry out their service with dignity, more than 80 hectares of territory have passed under their visual and fire control, and the water area of the Agstafachay reservoir, built in 1981, is reliably protected.
This reservoir is constantly polluted by Armenia.
Our border guards came close to the occupied village of Askipara.
At the end of autumn 2020, a very bold and interesting plan was implemented, as a result of which our units reached all the important strategic heights, which allows them to control the Armenia-Georgia interstate highway. As a result of the aggressive fascist policy of Armenia, many border Gazakh villages were wiped off the face of the earth. So, behind this hill is the village of Bağanis Ayrum, which was the first to undergo Armenian aggression. Houses there were destroyed, and part of the population was killed, including 5 people killed in one family. The occupation of this village in March 1990 was aimed at occupying all the villages from which one can see the highway to Georgia.
Having occupied the territory of the village of Khairimli, the Armenians gained control over the Joghaz reservoir with a total area of 1.32 square kilometres. In the summer months, the Armenian side deliberately blocks the reservoir, preventing the flow of water to its lower part, located in the Gazakh District, so that the Azerbaijanis could not use the water.
