Türkiye to invest one billion liras in electric vehicle charging stations

    WORLD  04 July 2022 - 22:31

With the "Fast Charging Stations Support Program for Electric Vehicles" commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and Technology to establish the charging infrastructure of electric vehicles in Turkey, an investment of 1 billion liras has been paved.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, electric vehicles have started to become widespread in Turkey as well as all over the world, TRT Haber reports.

As Turkey's Automobile Togg, which will catch up with the transformation in the automotive industry, is getting ready to step off the mass production line, fast charging of electric vehicles has gained great importance. Rolling up its sleeves for this purpose, the Ministry launched the "Charging Stations Support Program for Electric Vehicles".

Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement in March, "We are taking new steps in the expansion of high-speed charging stations, taking into account the developments in the production and use of electric cars, especially our domestic car Togg ," applications for the support program began in April.

20 companies were entitled to benefit from the supports

Applications for the program, which will enable entrepreneurs to invest in fast-charging stations, ended on June 15.

More than 200 investor candidates applied to the Ministry for the program, which received more than expected interest. As a result of the evaluation, the companies that were entitled to receive support were determined.

Within the scope of the program, a total of 355 project applications were made to 46 investment subjects determined by the Ministry. As a result of the evaluation made with the competition approach according to the lowest support request, 20 companies were entitled to benefit from the supports.

The Ministry will provide a total of approximately 150 million lira support for these investments. In this way, approximately 1 billion liras of private sector investment will be triggered.

Turkey will be one of the countries with the fastest increase in charging capacity

Within the framework of the "Charging Stations Support Program for Electric Vehicles", investors are required to install charging stations until April 15, 2023, but it is foreseen that the investments will be completed much faster.

The program is aimed to bring more than 180 MW of installed power to the sector with 1572 stations that will offer a minimum of 90 kWh fast charging. In this way, Turkey will become one of the countries that increase its fast charging capacity the fastest.
