Marmolada glacier collapse in Italy has killed nine.

Nine people have been killed after being caught in an avalanche sparked by the collapse of a glacier in the northern Italian Alps, TASS reports referring to Italy’s ANSA agency. 

Earlier it was reported about seven dead. According to ANSA, seven people were injured. Chief prosecutor of Trento city Sandro Raimondi has recently said that the incident could not have been foreseen.

"We will hear testimony, watch video footage and involve scholars to run tests to understand what happened "from a hydraulic point of view,” he added.

Scholars predicted that the glacier would completely disappear in 10 years. The reason for the collapse was high temperatures - 10 degrees Celsius at an altitude of about 3,000 metres.

Technicians from the Alpine Rescue Group managed to reveal that the glacier was moving at a speed up to 300 km / h. The rescuers said that in such conditions, it is unlikely to find someone alive. Search operations are underway.
