Russia installs next checkpoint in Azerbaijani village occupied by Armenia

On the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Azerbaijani village of Askipara (Armenians call it Voskepar), occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces, another checkpoint of the Russian army is being built in the direction of Azerbaijan's Gazakh district. The iron trailer installed in this area obviously depicts the colours of the Russian flag.

Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media that the self-proclaimed village council confirmed the construction of the Russian checkpoint.

The construction of another Russian checkpoint in the village of Berd, Tavush region, surfaced two months ago. Then the Ministry of Defence of Armenia officially refuted the information, saying the ministry did not have official information about the construction of Russian military facilities in the Berd community of the Tavush region, where a former airport is located.

"The protection and defence of the Armenian border in the specified section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani borderland are currently carried out by the corresponding division of the Armenian Armed Forces,” it said.

However, the recent reports about the installation of the Russian checkpoint in Askipara were confirmed by the ministry.

“In connection with the information in the media about the presence [of Russian military] in the Tavush region, in particular, in the village of Voskepar, Russian military personnel, we inform you that Russian border guards are stationed at the specified site, and the builders are working on the construction of buildings for the logistics of the border guards,” the ministry's report published on its official website read.

The process is carried out as part of the Armenian-Russian cooperation, according to the ministry.
