Armenian MP accuses ex-defence minister of being Moscow agent

09 April 2024 13:00

Hayk Sukiasyan, Deputy Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party, has labelled former Armenian Defence Minister Arshak Karapetyan as an agent of Moscow, alleging that Karapetyan carries out the Kremlin's agenda.

Sukiasyan made these remarks during a conversation with Armenian media, responding to Karapetyan's statements from Russia about creating a public tribunal to hold Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accountable, Caliber.Az reports.

"Arshak Karapetyan has fled to Russia and carries Moscow's coercion in his head. The ousted one talks about removing power. He says he is opening a party, a party is not a box for you to open, it is created. This person doesn't have even minimal intelligence. This person is an enemy of Armenia.

Hayk Sukiasyan believes that it is not Karapetyan's intention, but the Kremlin speaks through his mouth. Sukiasyan is convinced that a military tribunal should be set up for Karapetyan, which would deprive him of his general rank and bring him to justice.

The politician claims that Karapetyan is an agent and entered the state system as an agent and held such an important position as Minister of Defence as an agent.

"Unfortunately, the authorities realised this too late, when it was noticeable how they acted and left the army idle. It has failed in the military sphere, now in the political sphere it is trying to shake up the internal life of Armenia. Various organisations and individuals from Russia have already received this assignment, and now it is Karapetyan's turn, but this man has big problems in terms of abilities and capabilities, just as he failed in the military sphere, he won't be able to do anything in this sphere," Sukiasyan noted.

According to Sukiasyan, there is also a security threat in Karapetyan's statements, i.e. a repetition of "October 27" is possible. "There is no other tool. In the past, there were many revanchists, agent groups that made pushes in different places, but they failed in three years. Only political assassinations remain, and Russia can do it, as it did on October 27.

He calls on the Armenian authorities to be vigilant, stressing that "the security of all members and structures of Armenia's state bodies must be well organised".
