Azerbaijani MFA pays tribute to fallen servicemen on anniversary of Patriotic War
Today, September 27, marks the 4th anniversary of Azerbaijan's Patriotic War, which resulted in the liberation of lands held under Armenia's occupation for nearly 30 years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement to commemorate this significant day, Caliber.Az reports.
The statement reads:
“Today marks the 4th anniversary of the beginning of the 44-day Patriotic War, which restored the territorial integrity of our country. Thanks to the determination and courage of the valiant Azerbaijani Army, led by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the nearly 30-year occupation of our lands, violations of the fundamental rights of our citizens, and breaches of international law were brought to an end. On this Day of Remembrance, September 27, we honour with deep respect and gratitude the memory of our Shehids who gave their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, delivering this historic victory.”
On September 27, 2020, under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army launched counter-offensive operations across the front to prevent military provocations by the Armenian armed forces and to safeguard civilian lives. The 44-day Patriotic War concluded with a decisive victory for Azerbaijan, both on the battlefield and in negotiations, achieved at the cost of 2,908 Azerbaijani Shehids.
