Azerbaijani ombudsperson: Armenia confirms existence of accurate minefield maps
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirms the existence of accurate maps of minefields.
“The statements made by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a press conference confirm the existence of accurate maps of minefields planted in the Azerbaijani territories during the occupation, and that the maps were not presented to Azerbaijan to deliberately kill people,” Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva said in response to Azertac’s request.
The ombudsperson noted that the mine terror committed by Armenia impedes the ongoing construction work in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation, endangers the life and health of civilians, and delays the safe return of the population to their historical homeland.
More than 3,400 Azerbaijani citizens, including 357 children and 38 women, have been wounded as a result of the explosion of mines planted by the Armenian armed forces on the Azerbaijani lands since the first Karabakh war and until now. Thus, the norms and principles of international humanitarian law were grossly violated by Armenia.
Despite the repeated requests, the existence of accurate maps was denied by Armenia and the maps were not sent to Azerbaijan. The accuracy of the maps sent up till now is only 25 per cent. The latest statement made by the Armenian foreign minister once again proves that Armenia committed war crimes and mine terror against Azerbaijan.
