China poised to strengthen military cooperation with Russia

15 October 2024 09:49

China has expressed its commitment to deepening and expanding military cooperation with Russia while maintaining close high-level contacts between the two nations.

During a meeting in Beijing with Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, Zhang Yuxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Council, emphasized China's readiness to enhance Sino-Russian relations, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

He highlighted the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries as a pivotal moment for further cooperation.

Zhang Yuxia voiced optimism that both sides would work together to implement key agreements reached by their leaders, solidify high-level contacts, and broaden military collaboration to safeguard their shared interests in sovereignty, security, and development.

He further noted that in recent years, China-Russia relations have reached an unprecedented level in their history. Zhang expressed confidence that their cooperation would contribute to maintaining international coordination, regional peace, and stability.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have elevated bilateral relations to their highest point in history,” Zhang said, underscoring that this close relationship continues to progress steadily, driven by the strategic leadership and personal involvement of both leaders.

In turn, Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov highlighted the shared perspectives of Russia and China on global events, emphasizing their united approach to addressing current challenges. Belousov remarked on the alignment between the two nations' military departments.

"Yesterday's discussions with the Chinese Defence Minister were highly productive. We found that we share similar views, assessments of the global situation, and a mutual understanding of the steps we need to take together," Belousov said.

He attributed the strong strategic partnership between Russia and China to the leadership of Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. "It is our responsibility to further strengthen and develop this partnership," he added.

Belousov expressed confidence that the meeting would yield "fruitful work and significant decisions." He also noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and China, and next year will commemorate 80 years since their joint victory over fascism.

"We share a long, joint history, and we look to the future with confidence," Belousov concluded.
