Czech Republic plans to train about 4,000 Ukrainian military in 2023

17 November 2022 10:12

The Czech Republic plans to train up to 4,000 Ukrainian servicemen in 2023.

"Czech Defence Minister Jana Černochová said that the exercises will be held in five four-week cycles, each of which will involve up to 800 military personnel," RBC-Ukraine reports citing Sky News.

She added that it will cost the Czech Republic about $41.6 million.

It was noted that the Czech Republic strongly supports Ukraine after the Russian attack in February this year and supplies it with light and heavy weapons and ammunition.

It is reported that the training program will be launched with the first group of military personnel this year and, eventually, will be combined with the planned training program of the European Union for Ukraine.

At a meeting in Luxembourg on November 14, EU ministers agreed to create a mission to train about 15,000 Ukrainian servicemen and allocate an additional 500 million euros for the supply of weapons to Kyiv.

"Ukraine has shown interest in training mechanized battalions, as well as medical, engineering and chemical troops," Chernokhova said.

The Czech Republic will also send 55 military personnel as instructors or members of the command structures of the planned EU training mission to other EU Member States.

It is reported that both parts of the plan require parliamentary approval.
