Georgia introduces import duties on flour

From June 12, the import of more than 200 kg of wheat flour into Georgia is subject to a tax of 20 tetri ($0.07) per 1 kg.

The duty was introduced to support local producers and give them the opportunity to sell their crops, the government decree on the website of the Legislative Herald Matsne reads.

It will be valid until November 1, 2023.

Earlier, farmers held a series of protests due to the fact that demand for local wheat fell to zero, as the country almost completely switched to Russian flour.
