Hungarian FM slams Harris for disrespecting PM and Hungarian people
Peter Szijjártó, head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, expressed his criticism in response to U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris's comments during an appearance on CBS News.
"The statement made by Harris regarding Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is deemed unacceptable. The remarks from the U.S. Vice President reflect a lack of respect for the Hungarian people," the diplomat said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The discussion revolved around former President Donald Trump’s admiration for leaders like Orbán, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un. Harris abruptly interrupted, labelling these leaders as "dictators, autocrats, and murderers."
“It’s a scandal to talk about my prime minister like that. It is unacceptable. It is a total disrespect not only to the prime minister but also to the Hungarian people,” Szijjártó stated.
He emphasized that Orbán has served as prime minister for 14 years, reflecting the will of the Hungarian people.
When asked if Harris's remarks might lead to any repercussions, Szijjártó replied, “Definitely, this is not a good start,” alluding to future relations between Budapest and Washington.
