Hungarian PM: EU, US spend too much on military aid for Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that the US and the EU spent 310 billion euros ($322 billion) on military aid to Ukraine, an enormous sum that could have been invested in economic development and social needs.
Orbán made these remarks during a show on Kossuth Radio, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"I received information from the Americans during my negotiations with them that Europe and America together have spent 310 billion euros so far on military aid to Ukraine," the prime minister said.
He emphasised that it's difficult to make precise calculations, but regardless, it's an enormous amount.
Orbán believes that this money could have been better used to raise the living standards in the Western Balkan countries to a European level or to support North African nations to prevent migration.
On December 19, during a press conference in Brussels following the EU summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU has already spent 130 billion euros on Ukraine and is prepared to allocate additional 30.6 billion euros in budgetary financial aid in 2025, excluding weapons deliveries.
