Iran, Armenia set to further bolster ties with focus on regional cooperation
Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian at his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on July 30 underscored the importance of enhancing ties with neighboring countries as a central element of Tehran’s foreign policy.
This meeting, which coincided with Pashinyan’s visit to Tehran for Pezeshkian’s swearing-in ceremony, highlighted Iran’s commitment to fostering stronger regional relationships and developing communication routes, Caliber.Az reports.
Pezeshkian characterized the relationship between Tehran and Yerevan as longstanding, historical, and grounded in a spirit of neighbourliness. He emphasized that expanding these relations is a top priority for the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iranian government plans to focus on completing and improving communication routes, such as the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), to boost regional progress and connectivity.
The Iranian president noted that the collaborative spirit between the two nations provides a strong foundation for advancing projects in various sectors, including commerce, culture, science, and technology. Pezeshkian expressed optimism about leveraging this cooperation to further enhance bilateral relations during his tenure.
Armenia’s commitment to enhanced ties
Prime Minister Pashinyan reciprocated Iran’s sentiments, expressing Armenia’s eagerness to expand its relationship with Iran across multiple domains. He highlighted recent agreements between the two countries in areas such as transport, transit, border terminals, and energy, as evidence of their robust and amicable relations.
Pashinyan reaffirmed that Armenia values its relationship with Iran highly and is committed to furthering collaboration in all pertinent fields.
The endorsement ceremony for President-elect Pezeshkian took place on Sunday morning, attended by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Iranian officials, and foreign dignitaries. The formal swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held in the Iranian parliament later today.
