Lukashenko: “Might makes right” replaces international law
President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has said that Belarus’ historical development has been shaped by its strategic location in the centre of Europe, which has repeatedly placed the country at the crossroads of major geopolitical rivalries.
Lukashenko noted that this geographical position has been both an advantage and a source of vulnerability. He said Belarus has often found itself at the centre of long-standing tensions between East and West, and that its territory has repeatedly become a battlefield during periods of conflict, Caliber.Az reports via Belarusian media.
He added that the memory of these events has been preserved across generations and has contributed to efforts to maintain peace and social cohesion in the country.
The Belarusian leader also stated that the world is currently witnessing a renewed sense of fragility in international relations. He argued that the principle of “might makes right” is increasingly replacing international law, while trust between states is eroding and the risk of conflict is rising.
